Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status with his folk-based pop songs that were often rooted in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in love with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his home state led many to relocate to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared that John Denver was the best artist to capture Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever to be a member. Denver is the icon of Colorado to a large number of people all over the world. When I travel, I always come across someone from another end of the planet, someone comes from New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the very first thing that comes you hear is"Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's top 10 solo hit after appearing with small folk bands. It was written by and produced by Bill Danoff. Danoff originally wrote it by putting Johnny Cash's song in his head, however Denver was aware from the very first time he heard the first versions of the song that it could be a huge hit. In the days following his performance before a large crowd on the streets of Washington D.C., the musician recorded the track.
